Mammoth Spring Superintendent Ronald Taylor returned to the school from Little Rock Oct. 12 with some good news from the Arkansas State Board of Education. He reported to the Mammoth Spring School Board that the school district has been marked off the fiscal distress list.
This was news that many board members said they were happy to hear.
"I attended the board meeting as requested by the State Department of Education, today, and Mammoth Spring School District was removed from the list of schools on fiscal distress," Taylor said.
"We officially went on the fiscal distress list July 1 and came off today," Taylor said. "Normally, (getting off the list) is a two-year process, but we had everything in place prior to ever being put on there. My position has been and continues to be, that the board nor I have ever felt that we deserved to be on the list, but we're glad to be off."
"There's no more cloud hanging over the district as far as the state department's concerned with regard to our finances," Taylor said.
In other business, the board agreed to reorganize the board by rotating positions.
The next Mammoth Spring School Board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
