Driver of stolen vehicle had outstanding warrants

The Thayer Police Department tracked down a stolen vehicle Oct. 8 when the Arkansas State Police called the police department about the stolen vehicle heading into Thayer around 2 p.m.

Thayer Police Chief David Bailey went out to patrol the town and see if he could find the vehicle when an Arkansas trooper called the Thayer Police Department to tell him that the vehicle was in Thayer. Officer Michael Bunting and Chief Bailey pulled over the vehicle in question.

Steven J. Andrews, 53, of Lake City, Fla., the driver of the stolen vehicle was arrested and booked at the Thayer Police Department. According to a probable cause statement, it was found that Andrews had warrants from Illinois and Florida.

Andrews is charged with forgery in Adams County, Ill., on no bond. In Columbia County, Fla., Andrews is charged with cheating or defrauding a Walmart store and with uttering a forgery to defraud a jewelry store of $100. The bond for the Florida warrants is $10,000.

Andrews is scheduled to be extradited. He is currently in Columbia at a VA hospital for treatment of illness.
