The Salem Greyhound Mighty Mites clashed with Melbourne on a wonderful fall morning Oct. 10.
The first groups to hook up were the third-graders and the Hounds were fired up and ready to roll. From the first whistle, Salem took the early lead and with the defense holding strong, the offense was able to move the ball, helping led the Greyhounds to a 22-8 victory.
With the momentum of the day in Salem's favor, the fourth-grade Hounds kept things rolling in their game with the fourth-grade Bearkatz. Salem started strong and got an early score. The defense played great and held Melbourne scoreless, with Salem winning 14-0.
The fifth-graders were up next and the game started off tough with both squads playing hard. Each team had chances to capitalize, but it was the fifth-grade Katz that was able to take advantage of those chances and Melbourne knocked off Salem 20-0.
As always, the hitting was fierce in the sixth-grade game and that was reflected in the final score. The defense were stingy, but the sixth-grade Bearkatz were able to get past the Greyhounds 12-6.
