Salem, Mountain View battle

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

On a frosty Oct. 17 morning, the Salem Mighty Mite Greyhounds welcomed Mountain View to Greyhound Stadium.

The third-grade Hounds were ready to go and the game was close at first. Then, Salem turned up the heat and held off a late Yellowjacket surge to win 30-26.

The fourth-graders were next and both team held the other close. The Hounds used great defense and the offense was able to drive the ball and break things open, with Salem winning 14-0.

The fifth-grade battle was also a good one.

At first, the Yellowjackets took command, but after the half, Salem was able to adjust and the Greyhounds made a strong comeback. But time ran out on Salem and Mountain View won 32-24.

The final duel of the day pitted the sixth-grade squads against each other.

And this one was all Salem from the first whistle on. The offense scored early and often and the defense shut down Mountain View to the tune of a 42-0 Salem victory.

The Salem Mighty Mite Association thanks all the volunteers, parents, players and the following sponsors, Everett Management, Williams Garage, Sabco Insurance and Cel-Star, for their support of area youth.
