Bears manhandle St. Joe

Caleb Brown and Wes Coffey each recorded double-doubles as the Mammoth Spring Bears knocked off St. Joe 62-46 at the Twin Rivers Classic in Norfork Oct. 24.

Brown racked up a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds, while Coffey had 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Houston Cooper added 11 points and seven assists for the Bears.

Mammoth Spring opened the 2009 season with a 76-38 thumping of Twin Rivers Oct. 23.

Caleb Brown scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the victory for the Bears (2-0).

Wes Coffey added 16 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals, while Chris Young had 12 points, Mason Brown 10 points and Houston Cooper nine assists.

The junior Bears opened the evening by topping Twin Rivers 49-21.

Matt Turnbough led the way with 17 points, nine boards and eight steals. Craig Hoover added nine points and 11 rebounds, while Joby Busch had seven points and eight rebounds for Mammoth Spring.

Turnbough logged 19 points and five steals to help the junior Bears to a season-opening 24-21 win over Black Rock Oct. 19.

The junior Zebras jumped in front 12-3 after the first period, but Mammoth Spring got tough on defense at that point and held Black Rock to just nine points the remainder of the night.

Tyler Smith chipped in with seven rebounds for Mammoth Spring, while A.J. Smith had three points and four assists.
