Mighty Mites face Highland

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

The Salem Mighty Mite Greyhounds traveled to Ash Flat Oct. 24 to take on the Highland Rebels.

The day started off with the third-grade squads squaring off. The Hounds started fast and never let up, taking a quick lead and then letting the defense do in the rest. Salem never looked back and won this one 30-6.

The next contest pitted the two fourth-grade teams against each other. Again, Salem started fast and took an early lead. The defense held firm and Highland just could not catch up, with the Greyhounds winning 22-6.

The fifth-grade game figured to be a good one and it did not disappoint. With both teams battling tough, neither side was able to break through against the other. In the end, the Rebels were able to get a big play late, with Highland winning 6-0.

The final game of the day was the sixth-graders. Both teams were quick off the ball and this was a fast-paced contest. The sixth-grade Hounds were just a bit quicker and they scored early and controlled the rest of the game with great defense and a stout defense. Salem won 32-6.

The Salem Mighty Mite Association thanks all the parents, volunteers and community for supporting area youth. Also, thanks to the following sponsors: Bank of Salem, NAEC, York's Dozing and Backhoe, Barker Funeral Home and Salem Public Schools.
