The Izard County Junior Cougars snapped their five-game skid, dating back to last year, against the Mammoth Spring junior Bears with a 45-23 win Nov. 2 at the Cougars' Den in Brockwell.
Mammoth Spring had defeated the junior Cougars five times last season, with four of the wins coming by just two points. The teams also played to overtime twice.
Izard County jumped out to a 27-11 lead after one period and extended that to a 36-12 halftime advantage.
Trenton Hatman tossed in 22 points for the junior Cougars, while Chris King added eight and Jesse Ball scored six to lead Izard County (3-0). Mammoth Spring (2-2) was led by Collin Powell's six points.
The junior Lady Cougars fell 35-34 to the junior Lady Bears earlier in the evening.
Mammoth Spring led 8-6 after one period, but Izard County rallied to take a 17-16 halftime lead, then fell behind 28-24 after three.
Sami Wagner scored eight points and Jessica Moore added seven to lead Izard County.
Ashton Simino logged six and Jordan Sherrell had five for the junior Lady Cougars.
Kaitlyn Stewart led all scorers with 13 points for Mammoth Spring. Alex Taylor finished with nine, while Laynee French and Sammy Honeycutt finished with five points apiece.
