Junior Cougs stopped in FNBC finals

The Izard County junior Cougars made it all the way to the championship game of the FNBC Junior High Tournament at Southside before falling to the Riverview junior Raiders 47-37 Nov. 14.

Izard County (5-3) held a 15-12 lead after one, but Riverview rallied to pull ahead 25-21 at the half.

Trenton Hatman led the junior Cougars with 15 points, while Jesse Ball added 10 and Chris King eight.

Taylor Cowan and Alec Tullis finished with two points apiece for Izard County.

The junior Cougars advanced to the championship game with a 38-30 win over the Cave City junior Cavemen Nov. 12.

The Junior Cougars led 11-8 after one period, but Cave City fought to within 16-15 at the half, before Izard County jumped in front 25-22 after three.

Hatman led all scorers with 28 points for Izard County.

Grant Walling scored eight points to lead Cave City.

The junior Cougars opened tourney play with a 43-39 win over the Highland junior Rebels Nov. 11.

The junior Cougars led 13-12 after one period, before Highland knotted the game at 16-all at the half.

The junior Rebels rallied to grab a 28-26 lead after three, but the Izard County took the lead back and hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Izard County was 15 of 25 from the line, while Highland shot just 11 free throws in the game.

Hatman logged 22 points and Chris King added 12 to lead the junior Cougars.
