Being proactive in the event of any type of emergency or natural disaster is what the American Red Cross has done for hundreds of years and in the Sharp County area, which has seen more than its fair share of disasters, this is no exception.

Nov. 4, representatives from the Northeast Arkansas chapter of the Red Cross delivered a utility trailer stocked with blankets, cots, water, comfort kits and other essentials that are needed immediately following any type of disaster whether it is a house fire or other natural disaster. The trailer was delivered to the Ash Flat Church of Christ Nov. 4 as a central location in Sharp County, but if other counties in the Northeast Arkansas Chapter such as Fulton and Izard need the items in the trailer, it will be close by and can be utilized quickly.

The 16-foot trailer and its contents were made possible through a grant from the Walmart foundation. Representatives said the trailer will be moved periodically to allow all Red Cross volunteers to familiarize themselves with the supplies and also to allow immediate response to potential disasters.

Knapp-Carver with the American Red Cross's Northeast Chapter said, "We at the Red Cross understand the importance of being prepared for any emergency and the supply trailer makes us much more prepared to serve the residents of Sharp, Izard, Fulton and other surrounding counties." The contents of the trailer enable it to serve 100 persons.
