Bears split with Izard County

Paced by a balanced scoring attack, the Izard County Lady Cougars knocked off the Mammoth Spring Lady Bears 52-42 Nov. 20.

Trisha Arnold led the Lady Cougars with 16 points, followed by Rachel Harmon's 12. Amber Hall and Kaydie Campbell notched eight points each.

Sierra Smoot tossed in 14 to lead Mammoth Spring. Amy Young added nine and Bianca Paige had six.

Brittany Bearden and Kaitlyn Haney scored five points apiece.

In boys' action, the Bears dropped Izard County 51-29.

Caleb Brown paced Mammoth Spring with 18 points. Wayne Coffey had 12 and Houston Cooper nine.

Jordan Everett and Ryan Walker finished with eight points each for Izard County.

Josh Ball had six and Caleb Cowan five.

Helped by a 20-of-23 showing from the free throw line, the Bears topped the visiting Viola Longhorns 39-29 in 1A-2 North play Nov. 17.

The game was knotted at 5-all after a low-scoring first period, and the Bears were in front 12-11 at the half. Mammoth Spring opened a bit of breathing room with a 24-18 advantage heading into the final frame.

Brown led the way for the Bears with a game-high 18 points, including 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Jacob Payne paced Viola with nine points.

Dylan Holestine and Jackson Rains added eight points each.

In girls' play, the home-standing Lady Bears pushed past Viola 44-35.

Paige tossed in a game-high 17 points to lead Mammoth Spring.

Taylor Griggs paced the Lady Horns with 11 points, with Leslie Barker adding eight.
