Oregon County courts to consolidate

Thursday, December 3, 2009

Complying with a recent Missouri Supreme Court order, Oregon County Circuit Court will consolidate the circuit and associate division clerical staff under a single clerical authority. This person will be the current circuit clerk, Dorothy Barton.

The consolidation will take effect Dec. 15. "The aim of consolidation is to provide more efficient and accurate customer service through a unified clerk staff," according to the Oregon County Circuit Court. "An overall larger pool of staff will be available to assist customers. Consolidation also allows customers to complete transactions or obtain information at a single office where possible. In addition, the associate circuit judge may now devote more time to judicial responsibilities."

Staff were previously under two separate offices, one was overseen by the Honorable Jo Beth Prewitt, associate circuit judge, and the other by Barton, circuit clerk. Now, the two offices will be supervised under Barton.

"I will be the appointed authority to see over the whole works," Barton said.

Employees will need time to adapt to the changes, and Barton has asked customers to be patient during the transition.
