The 2009 holiday Tour Of Homes will be Sunday, Dec. 13 from 2-4 p.m. The annual event is sponsored by the GFWC Timely Club. This year's tour will spotlight three homes near ash flat. The homes are: the home of Larry And Carolyn Rhynes at 386 Kenner Road, the home of Bob And Jan Murphy at 641 Kenner Road, and a new home for sale owned by Fred And Charlotte Goodwin. It is located at 138 Goodwin Cove in Secluded Estates across from Walmart.
The home featured this week is the home of Bob And Jan Murphy located at 641 Kenner Road. The Murphys purchased the home and 120 acres in early 2006 and began renovation in July 2006. The original ranch style home was renovated into a 9,000 square foot, 18 room southern style home. The home has six bedrooms and five and one-half baths. While renovating the home the Murphys resided in the two bedroom guest cottage on the premises.
The main floor of the house features a grand entry with european marble floors and a handcrafted curved and suspended stairway that leads to the upper level of the home. The ceilings were raised and much of the original house gutted. On each side of the entry is a set of french doors. To the right is a library and to the left is the formal dining room. The dining room showcases Jan's blue pottery collection and blue rimmed dinnerware in the wall length built-in cabinetry. The kitchen is probably the largest room in the house with granite counter tops and a breakfast nook near a bay window. The family den is its original size with the original native stone fireplace. Off the kitchen is a pantry, half bath, second laundry room and Jan's office.
The master suite features the master bedroom and bath and french doors that lead to the patio. The master bath features a large marble walk-in shower and corner whirlpool tub. A large handicap bathroom and main laundry area, along with two spare bedrooms, complete the first floor.
An elevator was installed that services all three floors. The upper level of the house has three bedrooms, two baths, a large living area and a full kitchen and dining area. The basement consists of a den area, full kitchen with granite countertops and a game room complete with pool table, foosball table, ping-pong table, air-hockey, and pin-ball machines. Another original native stone fireplace in the basement backs up to the 12 seat theatre and movie room.
The Murphys also enjoy the enclosed underground pool, along with the exercise room sauna and Bob's office which are located off the back patio. The grandchildren can often be found roasting marshmallows at the outdoor fireplace, riding four-wheelers, or playing tennis on the outdoor court.
Jan and the design team from The Interior in Ash Flat will decorate the home with six Christmas trees and Christmas décor throughout the home. Showcased will be Jan's collection of nativity sets and Santa Claus figurines.
Tickets can be purchased at all local FNBC locations and Salem, at The Interior and Grapevine in Ash Flat, Looks Unlimited in Highland, Starks Antiques in Hardy and any Timely Club member. If you have any question please call 856-2170.
