Effective Jan. 1, 2010, the city of Alton will have a new city clerk.

Current City Clerk Dinah Slaughter well be retiring and Sherri Orr will replace her.

Orr grew up in West Plains and has extensive work experience. She's been employed at West Plains Savings and Loan, at a certified public accountant's office and at Family Services.

Orr said she met her husband of about 15 years, Chris Orr, at West Plains Savings and Loan where Chris still works. Though Orr, herself, is not a native of Alton, her husband is, and when they got married, they moved to Chris's hometown. "I enjoy the time I've been here and I feel good about the city (of Alton)," Orr said.

Orr and her husband have two children, a girl and a boy, one in kindergarten and one in third grade. Orr and her family live on a farm east of Alton.

She said she likes spending time with her family and working with the Alton School. She works with her children in 4-H, and she was a room mother for the school, which required her to bring goodies to class parties.

As for Orr's new job, she said, "I think Dinah has done such a good job and I'm going to try to continue in her line."
