The Cave City Cavemen were rewarded for their outstanding football season by placing three players on the Class 3A All-State Football Team.
Seniors Thamail Morgan, Alan Wright and Tyler Engleman, who all played big parts in Cave City's 9-2 season, were named to the All-State squad last week.
Morgan, who terrorized opposing offenses from his linebacker spot, was also named the Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year last week.
Morgan racked up 167 tackles -- 36 behind the line of scrimmage -- and also returned two fumbles and two interceptions back for touchdowns this year. On offense, Morgan logged 367 yards and four TDs on 30 carries, while also accounting for 500 yards and five touchdowns as a receiver.
Wright, who last week gave a verbal commitment to play football at Arkansas State University last week, had 60 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles from his spot on the defensive line this season. Wright had 96 pancake blocks and 60 knockdowns.
Engleman, although missing the last few games of the season with an ACL injury, still led Cave City in rushing once again in 2009. In a little over seven games, Engleman posted 1,205 yards and 16 touchdowns. His three-year total of 3,055 yards and 40 TDs makes him Cave City's all-time leading ground-gainer.
Along with the above trio, Dalton Carpenter, Nick Townsend, Garrett McSpadden and Joey Barnett were named to the All-Conference team.
William Boyd, Tyler Woods, Jeremy Johnson, Dillon Sallas, Tyler Poulette, Kody White, Robert Davis and Jeremy Egan were selected for second-team All-Conference honors.
Caveman Head Coach Jon Bradley shared Coach of the Year honors with Rivercrest's Kelly Chandler and Harrisburg's Keith Davis. Cave City, Rivercrest and Harrisburg all tied for the top spot in conference play this season.
