The Salem Greyhounds made things interesting down the stretch in the fourth period, but the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles still came away with a 51-39 win over the Hounds Dec. 21 in the opening round of the NEA Tournament at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
Hillcrest led 17-4 after the first period of play and 35-22 at the half.
The Screamin' Eagles took a 10-point lead, 41-31, into the final frame.
But the Greyhounds fought back to pull within six midway into the fourth.
That wasn't enough and Hillcrest held on for the 51-39 win.
Clint Ray paced Salem with 11 points.
Trevor Morgan scored a game-high 17 points for Hillcrest.
