The Izard County Cougars fell to the Cave City Cavemen 69-48 in the opening round of the NEA Tournament Dec. 22 at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
The 11th-seeded Cavemen led 19-8 after the first period and 31-19 at the half.
Cave City built its advantage to 54-36 heading into the final period of play.
Trenton Hatman paced the 22nd-seeded Cougars with 16 points, while Caleb Cowan added 12.
Seth Foreman led Cave City with 16 points, while Zac Smith added 13, Dalton Bell 11 and Thamail Morgan 10.
In girls' action, the Lady Cougars were knocked out of the tourney with a 53-40 setback to seventh-seeded Hillcrest Dec. 23.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles led 16-6 after the first period and 22-14 at the half.
Rachel Harmon tossed in 14 points to lead Izard County, while Trisha Arnold followed close with 13.
Samantha Blevins paced Hillcrest with a game-high 19 points.
