An Evening Shade woman was killed in a head on collision on Highway 60 just outside Popular Bluff Dec. 29.

Missouri Highway Patrol officer Sgt. Dale Moreland investigated the accident that killed Carol Cook, 53, of Evening Shade and Jack W. Vaughn, 41, of Dexter, Mo.

Cook was on her way to pick up her son from the river boats when the accident occurred.

According to the report, Cook moved into the eastbound passing lane when another car was already in the lane. She overcorrected, swerved and crossed the median in the 1990 Pontiac she was driving, hitting Vaughn's 1999 Dodge truck head on. Vaughn's vehicle then hit another vehicle also causing minor injuries to the driver of the third vehicle.

Both victims were killed instantly. The accident caused traffic to be shut down for several hours.

Funeral services for Cook were held at Rings Chapel at Poughkeepsie Jan. 1.
