Late New Year's Eve, two males were arrested when the vehicle they were in attempted to avoid a sobriety checkpoint at the intersection of state highways 177 and 223 in Pineville. The driver, Richard Thomas Brown, 51, was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test, having no driver's license, careless and prohibited driving, fleeing in vehicle, fleeing on foot, and resisting arrest. The passenger, Ricky Landon Brown, 53, was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said the Brown brothers posted bond the following day in the amounts of $4,880 and $1,310 and were released from the Izard County Detention Facility.
Mark D. Wheeler, 42, of Brockwell was arrested on a felony warrant involving seven counts of fraudulent use of drug paraphernalia and a contempt of court warrant. Wheeler remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $25,645 bond.
