In a recent Commission meeting the Commissioners voted to separate the Circuit Clerk's Office from the Recorder of Deeds. The Recorder of Deeds will become an elected position with filing to become available this year.
This was prompted by the Circuit and the Associate Court Division combining and the Circuit Clerk will take over the task of running both offices. This will become effective Jan. 1, 2010. With the added responsibility of the Circuit Clerk's duties most counties feel that this will become mandated to separate in the near future.
The Oregon County Courthouse has recently had a new roof put on. The last roof was installed back in the late 80s. The new roofs technology, the GenFlex TPO System, is lean, green, and clean. The system uses white reflective roofing materials which is supposed to keep the building 50 to 60 degrees cooler at peak times than the traditional type. It also meets EPA requirements and is a partner in the Energy Star Program which should be effective in the energy that is used by the Courthouse.
West Plains Roofing received the bid which was the cheapest at $36,750.
