Trumann's Richie Tharp was on fire from behind the 3-point arc and was just too much for the Izard County Cougars to contend with in the opening round of the George Kell Classic Jan. 4 in Swifton.
Tharp drained 10 treys en route to a game-high 30 points, helping sixth-seeded Trumann pass by Izard County 76-59.
For the game, the Wildcats knocked down 16 3-pointers.
The 11th-seeded Cougars were led by Trenton Hatman's 17 points. Ryan Walker added 16 for Izard County and Preston Harmon had 15.
Caleb Cowan sank six points, with Jake Dockins and Kyle King finishing with two points apiece.
In quarter-final action Jan. 6, fourth-seeded Corning knocked off the fifth-seeded Lady Cougars 53-34.
