Karla Rush of Sidney has announced plans to become a candidate for Izard County Judge in 2010. Currently serving as Justice of the Peace for District 7 (Democrat) in Izard County, Rush will seek the Judge's office which is being vacated by retiring Judge Rayburn Finley.
Rush has been a resident of Izard County since 1998, and presently lives in the Sidney/Mount Pleasant area. Rush is the director for college advancement at Ozarka College in Melbourne.
As a candidate for Izard County Judge, Rush expresses a desire to work diligently "to develop a system to improve our county roads and other needed infrastructure. I also want to approach economic development for our county in a very deliberate and gradual manner and pursue ways to provide opportunities for the youth in Izard County to engage in leadership and community growth."
Rush said that she
"has 22 years experience working in college administration, managing budgets and personnel, dealing with state and federal regulations and has written several successful grant proposals." In addition, Rush has completed bachelor and master degrees and additional coursework in public administration. Rush's expertise includes using computers in the workplace, Web site design, event planning, organizational and resource management, marketing, strategic planning, economic development and communication. She teaches college-level business courses for Ozarka College and often speaks at public meetings.
Rush is president of the Melbourne Industrial Development Corporation, serves on the Tree City USA Board, and for the last few years, has volunteered to organize the parade lineup for Izard County Pioneer Day and other county events.
"I believe in honesty, communication and hard work and it is a great honor to be considered a serious candidate for Izard County Judge. I will administer county business fairly and professionally and represent Izard County with dedication and optimism. Voters should expect no less from their County Judge. "
While on the Izard County Quorum Court, Rush has served on the planning and development committee, the law enforcement committee and the budget committee. Rush recently attended the Arkansas Association of Counties conference and will serve on the road committee, the law enforcement committee and the budget committee for the 2010 year.
"I have appreciated the opportunity to serve as JP for District 7, have used it as a chance to learn as much as I can about how the county operates and I am very qualified to serve the residents of Izard County. I will work hard, be proactive and operate on an open-door policy in the courthouse. I want to serve Izard County because I see opportunity in our challenges, and as a professional, I can execute solutions and strategy to lead Izard County forward."
Karla is married to Izard County native Freddy Rush. Their family includes: Matt and Amber Rush, Merinda and Chris Jackson all of Melbourne, Maggie and Mike Garrett of Cabot and four grandchildren. Rush is active in Foothills Cowboy Church and manages her church's Web site and card ministry.
