Horseshoe Bend to host third annual Legends of the LPGA

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

The Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA, announces its third annual charity social event, golf clinic and Pro-Am Tournament in Horseshoe Bend, scheduled for Sept. 18--19 at The Golf Course on Turkey Mountain. Some of the legendary golfers who have participated in the first two Horseshoe Bend Invitationals include: Kathy Whitworth, Jan Stephenson, Jeanette Kohlhaas, Elaine Crosby, Sandra Haynie, Pat Bradley, Cindy Rarick, Cindy Miller, Jane Blalock, Rosie Jones, Laurie Rinker, Cindy Figg-Currier, Lori West, Terry Jo Myers, Annie Marie Palli, Carolyn Hill and many more Hall of Famers.

Baxter Regional Medical Foundation is the benefactor of this year's event.

Events include a clinic at the course showcasing the swings of various Legends Tour professionals, along with a putting competition where anyone can challenge one of the LPGA Hall of Fame Legends. Also on the schedule is a social hour meet-and-greet, which is an exciting opportunity to hear great stories about major championships, have fun and interact with the greatest lady professional golfers of all time, as well as a perfect photo opportunity.

Legends Tour President and former LPGA standout Jane Blalock sees the Horseshoe Bend community as a good fit for a pro-am that will grow into a full field tournament stop in subsequent years.

"We have a great fan base in the region who love coming out and watching the Legends of the LPGA tackle their local course. The players are once again looking forward to coming back to Horseshoe Bend -- the hospitality is wonderful and the setting is beautiful." said Blalock. "We are very encouraged by the commitment of local supporters and excited to build and grow a viable event in north central Arkansas."

The Legends Tour, the "Official Legends Tour of the LPGA," was started in 2000 by LPGA professionals with a goal to showcase the talents of some of the greatest women golfers of all time. The Legends Tour has over 100 members, including 10 World Golf Hall of Fame members. Legends Tour players have a combined 625 LPGA Tour victories, including 65 major championships.

In its eight seasons, The Legends Tour has awarded more than $8.8 million in prize money and has hosted events in Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Australia and Japan.
