Though winter hasn't quite quit the area, it's never too early to start thinking about spring cleaning.
People can at least start gathering boxes up and putting their junk in them for a collection clean up that will be from the end of March through May at various locations throughout Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas and Wright counties in the South Central Solid Waste Management District. Those who bring items for the collection must reside within one of those counties.
It is a free collection for latex and oil based paints, aerosol cans, used motor oil and antifreeze, rechargeable batteries, vehicle batteries and button batteries and pesticides and herbicides. These items (hazardous chemicals) are to be placed in containers no larger than five gallons. They will also be collecting old electronics including old computers, TV's and microwaves.
This collection is for households only, no businesses.
All collections will be on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The collection dates and locations are as follows: March 27 in Gainesville at the recycling center on County Road 503; April 3 in Willow Springs by Booster Field; April 10 in Huston at Ozark Green Recycling Center on Highway 17; April 17 in Thayer on Front Street by the police station; April 24 in West Plains at the transfer station; May 8 in Mountain View at the recycling center; May 15 in Mountain Grove at the maintenance shed off Highway 95 and May 22 in Ava at Do Co, Inc. -- Douglas County Sheltered Workshop. Mark your calendars and don't forget the dates.
Collections such as these are funded by the Solid Waste Tipping Fee Fund that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources collects. For more information call the South Central Solid Wast Management District at 417-932-5345.
