Houston Cooper drove the length of the floor, was fouled and then hit a free throw with 0.9 seconds left, to give the Mammoth Spring Bears a huge 45-44 1A-2 North win over the visiting Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles Jan. 26.
Hillcrest had tied the score at 44-all when Logan Spray stuck back a missed free throw with 10 ticks left in the contest.
Cooper (16 points) then took the inbounds pass and was fouled at the top of the key, then making the first free throw for the victory.
Mammoth Spring (19-6, 6-1) outscored Hillcrest 21-8 in the fourth period, after the Bears had trailed by 12 at the start of the fourth.
Freshman Matt Turnbough, playing in his first senior high game, hit a big 3-ball to start the Bears' rally. Wes Coffey (14 points) also hit a pair of treys to aid Mammoth Spring's rally.
