Melbourne sets pace in 2-2A

The Melbourne Lady Bearkatz ran their 2-2A mark to a spotless 10-0 with a tight 56-52 win over the Midland Lady Mustangs Feb. 4.

Maggie Jo Cooper paced Melbourne (20-6) with a game-high 26 points.

Amanda Treat added eight points for the Lady Katz.

Later in the night, the Bearkatz (25-5, 10-1) kept their spot at the top of the conference standings in good shape with a 43-38 victory over the Mustangs.

Kody Caraway led the way with 22 points. Dalton Grigg added 11 points and 11 boards, with Spencer Caraway notching 12 points and pulling down eight rebounds.

The junior Lady Katz started the night off with a 37-33 win over Midland.

Avery Qualls scored 14 points, while Kelly Shell added 10.

Melbourne had little trouble with Sloan-Hendrix Feb. 2, as the Bearkatz romped past the Greyhounds 73-42 after the Lady Katz had routed the Lady Greyhounds 81-34 earlier in the evening in 2-2A Conference play.

The Bearkatz got a 25-point, 11-rebound double-double from Spencer Caraway, while Grigg notched a 15-point, 15-board double-dip of his own.

The Lady Katz were led by Maggie Jo Cooper's 21 points and six rebounds. Kenzi Gillihan and Olevia Wetzel logged 11 points each for Melbourne in the blowout victory.
