The Thayer Lady Bobcats' impressive 14 game winning streak came to a halt Feb. 12 with a tight 44-42 road loss to the Ava Lady Bears.
The setback to Ava was Thayer's (17-3) first loss in South Central Association play this year.
Kaley Hebert led the Lady Cats with 17 points. Whitney Mills and Laken Martin followed with 10 points apiece.
Later in the evening, the Bears knocked off the Bobcats (10-10, 1-4) 60-54.
Thayer fell behind 13-2 early in the first period before ripping off 11 unanswered points to knot things at 13-all after one.
The Cats trailed by three at the half and after Ava hit five treys in the third, Thayer was down eight heading into the final frame.
Justin Shipp (15 points) hit a pair of free throws and then drained a jumper with 15 ticks remaining to pull Thayer within four points, but Ava hit some key charity tosses late to fend off the Bobcat charge.
Heath Barbee finished with 12 points for Thayer, while Austin Henry added 10, Jeremy Cabrales and Ricky Smith netted seven points each. Tommy Martin posted two points.
The Lady Bobcats recorded a hard-earned 51-48 win at Eminence Feb. 11, just one night after the Lady Redwings (15-4) had topped Van Buren for first place in the Big Spring Conference Tournament.
Thayer led Eminence by nine points after three periods of play, but the Lady Cats could muster just six points in the last eight minutes of play.
The Lady Redwings had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but a long heave at the rim missed its mark, leaving Thayer with a three-point victory.
Mills led Thayer with 14 points. Martin and Hebert added 11 points each.
Samantha Oakes finished with 10, Lacey Hawkins had three and Emily Eckman one.
Eminence was paced by Kelsey Williams' game-high 15 points. Brooke Williams logged 14 for the Lady Redwings.
