Junior Cavemen tops in district

The second-seeded Cave City junior Cavemen took top honors in the 3A-1 East District Junior High Tournament by upsetting top-seeded Mountain View in the finals Feb. 13 in Flippin.

Chaz Matthews came up big for Cave City (15-6) with a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double. Seth Downs added 10 points.

In the semis Feb. 12, the junior Cavemen outlasted Yellville-Summit 44-39.

Downs led the way with 13 points, with Matthews chipping in 11.

The junior Cavemen advanced out of the opening round with a 39-28 win over the hosts from Flippin Feb. 10.

Downs paced Cave City with 12 points, while Jeremy Runyan added nine points.

The junior Cavewomen saw their season end with a 33-23 setback to the Flippin junior Lady Bobcats Feb. 10.

Jamie Holley tossed in 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had seven steals for the junior Cavewomen (9-10).
