Mardi Gras made its way to Horseshoe Bend Feb. 19 as Music in the Mountains show spotlighted the New Orleans tradition with an entertaining mixture of country, blues and gospel music to a large crowd. There were red beans and rice and Mardi Gras masks and beads for attendees. The Music in the Mountains stage was decorated beautifully for the event. A crowd favorite was Robert Hutchison and sons Joe and Jake, as the trio performed a crowd pleasing gospel rendition. The young boys were a hit and after Robert and Jake left the stage, 6-year-old Joe, who is a huge Elvis fan performed "Blue Suede Shoes" much to the audience's pleasure. The Highway 289 band also pleased the crowd as well as other guests who were well liked by the large crowd.
The costume contest was also a crowd favorite as two members were decked out in Mardi Gras costumes and won a round of golf at Turkey Mountain Golf Course.
The Music in the Mountains Show will be held each third Saturday night at 6 p.m. Young and old alike could be seen tapping their feet to the tunes as the variety of music was suited for every generation, from Johnny Cash to Bonnie Raitt, the crowd was all smiles as performers took the stage. The Music in the Mountains Show welcomes local talent and looks forward to a successful season. They are located in the Diamond B Mall in Horseshoe Bend.
