Alton falls to Lady Panthers

Ending the game on a 10-0 run, the Mountain Grove Lady Panthers knocked the Alton Lady Comets out of the Class 3 District 10 Tournament by the count of 52-42 Feb. 27 at Cabool High School.

Midway into the final frame, the contest was locked at 42-all, but the third-seeded Lady Panthers closed the game with 10 unanswered points to top sixth-seeded Alton.

Mountain Grove jumped in front early and using an effective full-court defense, took a 13-6 lead after the first period of play.

The Lady Panthers built a 24-17 lead at the half.

But the Lady Comets keep chipping away and when the third period drew to a close, Alton trailed by just two, 33-31.

Alex Hower then drilled a big-time 3-pointer early in the fourth to give Alton a 38-35 lead. But the Lady Comets couldn't hold onto that cushion and Mountain Grove controlled the late stages of the game to win by 10 points.
