The Class 1A Region 2 Tournament's championship game featured a battle between two of the top-ranked boys' team in Class 1A, the second-ranked Bay Yellowjackets (38-6) and the fifth-ranked Mammoth Spring Bears (26-8).

And although Bay claimed the regional tourney title with a 50-41 victory over the Bears Feb. 27 at Harold Ray Jeffery Gymnasium in Calico Rock, the Yellowjackets knew they had been in a fight by the time the contest was over.

Bay led 16-12 after the first period and then edged in front 26-15 at the half.

Mammoth Spring rallied in the second half and pulled within four points of the Yellowjackets in the fourth period.

But the Yellowjackets hit nine of 12 charity shots in the final frame to fend off Mammoth Spring by nine points.

Garrett Wooldridge paced the Bears with 17 points and seven rebounds. Houston Cooper added 11 points, while Caleb Brown had eight.

In the semis Feb. 26, Mammoth Spring overpowered the Ridgefield Christian Warriors, ranked number six in Class 1A, 60-41.

The Warriors led 13-10 after the first period, but the Bears rallied to grab a 23-15 advantage at the half.

Mammoth Spring opened this lead up to 37-25 after three periods of action.

Brown scored a game-high 26 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Bears.

Wooldridge added 12 points and nine boards. Chris Young finished with eight points, with Austin Hite and Wes Coffey tossing in six points each, while Cooper logged four points and 12 assists.

The Bears opened regional play by hammering Armorel 71-54 Feb. 24.

Brown led the way with 16 points, while Coffey had 14. Cooper chipped in with 13 points and 10 assists. Wooldridge added eight points and 10 boards for Mammoth Spring.
