They may not have earned a berth in the state tournament, but the Calico Rock Pirates still gave the Ridgefield Christian Warriors all they could handle in the opening round of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament.
Although it was pushed, Ridgefield Christian managed to top the Pirates 51-40 Feb. 25 at Harold Ray Jeffery Gymnasium in Calico Rock.
The Warriors got off to a quick start and led 11-0 in the first period.
However, the Pirates (15-13) rallied and with a shade over three minutes left in the first half, the game was knotted at 17-all.
The Warriors stood in front 25-22 at intermission.
Calico Rock kept fighting and even overtook Ridgefield Christian in the third, but once again the Warriors found a way to get the lead back on their side, and this time, they held on to it.
Jake Pool paced the Pirates with 18 points.
Sam Nave and Brayden McCurley added six points each.
Morgan Lamb finished with five, Alex Skidmore had three and Jordan Green two.
