Comets, Jays, Indians fall in district play

ALTON COMETS

The Alton Comets ran into a buzz-saw in the first round of the Class 3 District 10 Tournament in Cabool March 1.

The top-seeded Ava Bears ended the Comets' season with a 72-31 Ava victory.

Zac Roberts paced Alton with 11 points. Mark Smith followed with nine points, while A.J. Hodge had five. Randy Ray and Skylar Chronister finished with three points apiece.

KOSHKONONG BLUE JAYS

The Koshkonong Blue Jays' season came to a close with an 83-50 loss to the top-seeded Gainesville Bulldogs March 1 in the opening round of the Class 2 District 2 Tournament.

Gainesville led 24-16 after one and extended that margin to 44-29 at the half.

Dakota Nash paced the Bulldogs with 19 points. Dylan Wages added 18, Paxton Smith had 14 and Dalton Lok finished with 13 points for Gainesville.

COUCH INDIANS

Riley Jenkins tossed in a game-high 24 points to lead the Norwood Pirates to a 55-38 victory over the Couch Indians in the Class 2 District 2 Tournament March 2 at Thayer High School.

Second-seeded Norwood jumped in front 25-12 after the first period and maintained control of the game.

The seventh-seeded Indians were led in scoring by Eddie Meier and Chris Taylor, who finished with 12 points apiece.
