An Ash Flat woman died in a house fire at her home on North Circle Drive in Ash Flat March 23.
According to an incident report obtained from the Ash Flat Fire Department, Wanda Yates, 68, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters from the Ash Flat Fire Department and workers with the City of Ash Flat and Center responded to the blaze around 4 p.m.
The report said that upon arrival the structure was already engulfed in the middle section of the home facing the street. A neighbor and Yate's husband Ronald advised firefighters of Mrs. Yates being in the home.
A separate police report from the Sharp County Sheriff's Department stated that Mr. Yates was also in the home at the time of the fire but was able to escape.
After making entry into the home, firefighters discovered the body of Mrs. Yates. The firefighters then assisted the coroner with recovery of the body.
Yates body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
