Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission adds battle database to Web site

Thursday, April 8, 2010

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission has added a comprehensive database on Civil War battles in the state to its Web site, ACWSC Chairman Tom Dupree announced today.

"Arkansas was the scene of more than 770 offensive operations during the war, ranging from raids and skirmishes to full-fledged battles," Dupree said. "This database will help show people where and when fighting took place in their area."

Located at http://www.arkansascivilwar150.com /research-education/chronology/default.aspx, the database can be searched by county, by month and by year.

For more information on sesquicentennial plans, visit www.arkansascivilwar150.com or e-mail acwsc@arkansasheritage.org.

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission is housed within the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program. The AHPP is the Department of Arkansas Heritage agency responsible for identifying, evaluating, registering and preserving the state's cultural resources. Other agencies are the Arkansas Arts Council, the Delta Cultural Center in Helena, the Old State House Museum, the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission and the Historic Arkansas Museum.
