The South Central Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety (MCRS) recently traveled to Alton High School to present a $250 check in prize money the school earned by participating in the Battle of the Belt safety belt education program and achieving the most improved safety belt usage among participating schools in the South Central region.
Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety Regional Coordinator, Kelly Martin said she has been pleased with the number of schools taking part in this statewide competition.
"Statewide only 67 percent of teens are buckling up. This is a very low percentage, especially when, under their graduated licenses, these teens are required by law to wear their seat belts," she said.
Prize money funding was provided statewide by American Family Insurance.
