Austin Smith, a well known face at the West Plains Motor Speedway and local logger was killed last Wednesday when a car he was working on fell off its stands, crushing him below.
According to Fulton County Sheriff Walter Dillinger, Smith, age 43, was working on one of his race cars when the accident occurred.
Smith and his son A.J. were strong competitors at West Plains Motor Speedway, with Smith competing in IMCA Modifieds and his son in the Youth Hobby Stock.
Smith was also a well known businessman in the area and in 2005 donated the final amount needed towards the Mammoth Spring Schools electronic sign board, located in downtown Mammoth Spring.
He is survived by his wife, Paula and his two sons, Aaron and A.J.
