Cherokee Village Alderman charged with rape

Billie Earl Shelton, Jr., 45, of Cherokee Village was arrested April 14 on a class Y felony charge of rape.

According to reports, Shelton and his estranged wife had been involved in an argument, after which Shelton stated to police that he returned to his home and forced himself upon a female victim residing at the residence.

The alleged victim stated that when her attacker was done, he got up to take a shower, at which time she was able to get away and call police.

Shelton is a Cherokee Village Alderman, representing Ward 2, Position 1. He is being held in the Fulton County Jail on $150,000 bond.
