The current superintendent of the Dora Schools will be taking the reins at the Thayer School District on July 1.
Don Chappell has previously been an agriculture teacher and a high school principal in the Cabool School District before taking his current post in Dora.
Current Thayer Superintendent Rod Priest will be leaving on June 30 to take the assistant superintendent post in the Poplar Bluff school district.
Chappell received his bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri -- Columbia, where he was a research assistant. He later earned a master's degree from that same university and recently received his specialist degree in education administration from Missouri State University -- Springfield.
Chappell feels the Thayer school district has very good academics. "Thayer is a community of good people that support their school tremendously," he said.
Chappell has spent 15 years in the South Central Association and is familiar with many of the administrators and faculty in the area.
Thayer will also be hiring a new high school principal soon, as current High School Principal Kevin Hedden will be taking the post of assistant high school principal in the West Plains R-7 School District.
