Austin Hicks, an eighth grader at Calico Rock High School, competed in the 2010 Arkansas Junior Olympic Championship, a qualifier for the USA Shooting National Junior Olympic Shotgun Championship, held April 16-18 at the Remington Gun Club in Lonoke.
Hicks tied for eighth place, only 10 clays shy of the Gold Medal.
Hicks is a member of the Calico Rock High School chapter of the Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program (AYSSP) and will be competing at the USA National Shooting Shotgun Championship in Colorado Springs, Colorado, July 2-13.
Hicks will be one of only 10 shooters from Arkansas invited to this event.
A score of 210/225 would qualify him to advance to the National Junior Olympics.
Hicks is now a member of the Arkansas International Youth Trap Association, an organization whose goal is to help with training and advancement of the top shooters in the state.
