Lady Katz reach title game

The Melbourne Lady Bearkatz (20-4) advanced to the championship game of the 2A-2 District Tournament in Marked Tree with a 7-5 victory over the Cotter Lady Warriors May 8.

Kenzi Gillihan recorded two hits for the Lady Katz.

In opening-round action from the tourney, the Lady Bearkatz hammered Marmaduke 10-0.

Maggie Jo Cooper tossed a no-hitter in the circle, striking out eight, while walking three.

At the plate, Cooper belted an inside-the-park homer.

Melbourne scored nine runs in the first inning.

Cheyenne Beane and Amanda Treat logged two hits apiece.

Due to wet fields, Melbourne's tilt with Cedar Ridge was moved to May 11, after the deadline for this issue of The News.
