Horns earn spot in finals

The rainy weather that swept through the area pushed back the championship game, pitting Viola against Hillcrest, of the 1A Region 2 Baseball Tournament to May 11, after this issue of The News went to press.

In the regional semi-finals May 8, Viola (26-4) dispatched Calico Rock by the score of 13-0 in five innings of play.

Viola crossed the plate nine times in the first and four in the fourth.

Jordan Cotter was sharp on the mound, tossing a no-hitter while walking just two.

He fanned six on the day.

At the plate, Cotter racked up three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs.

Dolan Johnston had three hits, including a double and triple, while batting-in two.

Austin Gardner and Matt Prinner (two RBIs) had a pair of hits apiece.

Jacob Payne also drove in a run for the Horns.

In opening-round action May 7, the Longhorns battered Black Rock 15-0.

Viola scored 12 runs in the second inning and never looked back.

Zane Kunz pitched a one-hitter to earn the win for Viola.

Prinner had a big day with three hits and four ribbies, while Gardner drove in three on two hits.

Dylan Holstine logged two runs-batted-in for the Horns.
