Salem man arrested on child porn charge

Thursday, June 3, 2010

Robert Porter, 68, of Salem has been charged with 10 counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing of matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child, all Class C Felonies.

Porter was in California when the charges were filed, and corresponded with local law enforcement to schedule a surrender to authorities. Porter was arrested by Salem Police Chief Albert Roork on May 26 and immediately posted the $50,000 bond.

According to an affidavit released by the Fulton County District Court, Arkansas State Police Special Agent Becky Vacco was contacted by Janette Cooper with the Crimes Against Children division of the Arkansas State Police.

Cooper stated to Vacco that she had conducted an interview with a 15 year old female who stated that she was present at the Robert Porter residence at the beginning of January. She alleged that Porter had pictures on his computers of her between the ages of approximately 5 to 11 years old, wearing only a bra and/or panties, or completely nude. The 15-year-old also alleged that Porter had performed sexual acts on her when she was approximately 7 years old.

Investigator Cooper also conducted interviews with an 11-year-old girl and a 13 year-old-boy who alleged to have seen nude pictures of children on the computers located at Porter's residence.

The two children stated to Cooper that they saw file names such as "9 year old child porn," "10 year old child porn" and so on.

On Feb. 10, the same date as the interviews, a search warrant was obtained for the residence of Robert Porter and the following items were seized:

* 50 DVDs

* 4 Floppy disks

* 1 Fantom external hard drive

* 3 thumb drives

* 1 JVC video tape

* 1 tin box containing sex toys

* 11 photographs

* 3 digital cameras with attachments

* 1 camera case with camera parts and storage cards

* 2 desktop computers

An additional search warrant was obtained on Feb. 16 for the forensic search of the two computers which were seized during the search of the residence.

This warrant was executed on March 24 by Computer Forensic Specialist, Detective Robert Harden. Detective Harden completed the search warrant and reported his findings to Special Agent Vacco on April 29.

According to the report, nine child pornography images were found and identified. The files were thumbnail sized images.

In addition to the nine images found on the computers, at least one image of child pornography was located on a DVD seized from the Porter residence on Feb. 10.

None of the images of child pornography located depicted the alleged victim.

Yes this a disgusting and despicable act that this man has commited (and yes I do understand you are innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, but with such charges being brought against Porter the law also needs to protect the community)and in the article it needed to also be stated he lives next door to a daycare-----my daughters daycare!! I was just informed of the incident yesterday and my daughter has been removed from the daycare facility!!! This man should not be allowed to still live in his house with the charges that have been brought against him!!! Innocent children are at risk and not to mention the added worries this brings to the parents of these children!!!! SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE!!!!ASAP!!!
