Fulton County tops in state during spring turkey harvest

Friday, July 16, 2010

Recently, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission heard a presentation about the 2010 spring turkey harvest by AGFC turkey biologist Mike Widner.

Widner told the Commission that 10,111 turkeys were checked during the season.

The harvest was down about 9 percent from the 2009 season.

Fulton County led the state with 369 birds harvested. During the preseason youth hunts, 850 turkeys were harvested, down from a record 981 turkeys in 2009.

The Commission also discussed dove season, the unofficial opening of Arkansas's fall hunting season.

Early-season migratory game-bird season selections must be reported to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service by Aug. 1. Approval for the seasons will take place during the Commission's July meeting. Changes from last season are minor.
