Smith takes board seat in school elections

Guy B. Smith defeated Gary Phillips for the Position 5 seat on the Salem School Board Tuesday night, with 71 percent of the vote over Phillips 29 percent. In Mammoth Spring, unopposed candidates Devon Smoot and Bradley Dale Washam were elected to the position 2 and position 5 seats respectively and in Viola, Shawn Batterton, who also ran unopposed, secured the position 5 seat.

The 35 mills tax in Mammoth Spring was overwhelmingly approved with 95 percent of the voters on it's side, while the Salem 31.5 tax also was approved with 68 percent of the vote. The Viola 40.62 mills tax will remain in place.
