The City of Ash Flat will be hosting its annual Eaglefest Oct. 1-2 and it's inviting those in the area to come out for the large line up of events both Friday and Saturday. Food and craft vendors will also be set up at the event, which is held at the Ash Flat Ball Park on Nix Ridge Road and College Drive.
This event is always family friendly. There will be a street dance on Friday night from 6-10 p.m. with the Black River Band. The evening will conclude with a $100 cash prize being given away to one lucky winner.
The fun begins again on Saturday morning with a pie judging and kids cookie baking contest at 10 a.m. and the popular Bag O contest starting at 11 a.m., this will be followed by an old fashioned cake walk at noon.
Open microphone will be featured from 12-2 p.m. At 2 p.m. the Ryan Tyler Band takes the stage. This band has become a crowd favorite in the area.
Hailing from Thayer, Mo., the band consists of two young brothers who not only sing, but also write their own music. Ryan, 18, plays lead guitar and other instruments and sings harmony with brother Tyler. Ryan became a self taught musician at age 11, with influences such as Slash from Guns 'N' Roses, among others.
Tyler, the youngest of the brothers is 16 and also a self taught musician since the age of 8. He is the lead vocalist, drummer and plays guitar, piano and mandolin. His vocal abilities have been compared to a young John Mayer.
The two write their own lyrics and the area has more than welcomed them to many a stage and river birthday party.
The talent of this young duo has also caught the eye of producers, songwriters and others in the music industry. They have their mind set on securing a recording contract.
The duo has utilized the talent of vocal coach Ron Feldman who has a famous clientele including Warrant's Jani Lane, Mark Miller with Sawyer Brown and both Kevin and Howie from the Backstreet Boys.
They are also members of the Nashville Songwriters Association and have been performing for five years.
After The Ryan Tyler Band, the crowd will be treated to Elvis impersonator Matt Joyce, followed at 6 p.m. by the Forever Young band.
Eaglefest will conclude Saturday night with a $200 cash drawing.
"Bring the family and a few lawn chairs and start off the beautiful fall weather in Ash Flat," a spokesperson said.
