It looked to be the best matchup of the second round of the Class 1 Football Playoffs.
A matchup of the last three Show-Me Bowl runners-up.
It was also a rematch from the playoffs two years ago, a game in which the Thayer Bobcats had their way with the Valle Catholic Warriors.
But this time around, it was all Valle Catholic, as the homestanding Warriors topped Thayer 56-21, Nov. 8, in St. Genevieve.
The Bobcats (9-3) lost the coin toss to open the sectional game and kicked off to the Warriors (11-1).
Ninety yards later, the officials extended their arms overhead to indicate touchdown for the Warriors, after the receiver ran the kickoff from the 10-yard line into the end zone.
This set the tone for the game with only 15 seconds off the clock.
The Bobcats got a good runback from freshman Levi Hargrove, but a fumble turned the ball back over to the Warriors. Valle quickly scored a 30-yard touchdown and, with the PAT good, the home team had jumped ahead 14-zip.
One bright spot for the Bobcats was a pass interception and return for a touchdown by Jeremy Cabrales. The PAT was good to put seven points on the board for the Cats.
Penalties on the Bobcats gave up easy yards, but that was only a small part of Thayer's problems.
Fumbles put the Bobcats in long-yardage situations or turned the ball over.
The Warriors took advantage of the cannon arm of their quarterback Alex Stoll, hitting five different open receivers for big yardage and or touchdowns, to end one half of play with the homestanding Warriors on top of the Bobcats 42-7.
Thayer's first offensive play of the second half resulted in a Valle interception.
After a couple of good defensive plays from the Cats, the Warriors slashed into the end zone to push their lead out to 49-7.
With the turbo-clock running, a double-reverse from Cameron Carey to Lucas Risner netted 21 positive yards and a glimmer of a spark for the Bobcats.
A pass completion to Derek Kreig picked up nine before a holding flag pushed the Bobcats back.
Bobcat quarterback Jared Foley's pass completion to Austin Henry picked up 16 to end the third.
The Bobcats moved the ball down to the 1-yard line to set up a touchdown run by Carey.
The ensuing on-sides kick attempt by the Bobcats was picked up by the Warriors, near mid-field and advanced half the length of the field for another Valle score and PAT for a 56-13 Warrior advantage.
Conner Blair got a good runback, along with positive runs from Risner and Carey to move the Bobcats close to the goal line.
A Cabrales pass attempt for the Bobcats was picked off in the end zone to end the Bobcat scoring drive.
The final series for the Bobcats' season netted a short touchdown run by Carey and a 2-point conversion run by Risner to end the game and season with a final score of Warriors 56, Bobcats 21.
The Warriors lost to state champion Penney in last year's Class 1 Show-Me Bowl at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, while Thayer finished second in the state to Orrick the two seasons previous to last year.
