Woman Air Evac'ed from crash

On Friday, Nov. 5, Thayer Police were called to investigate a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of North 6th Street and Vine Street. The driver, Cheryl Knigge, 29, of Thayer drove her 2001 Ford ZX2 off of the left side of the road, traveling 100 feet in the ditch before striking a driveway culvert and becoming airborne. The vehicle traveled approximately 92 feet in the air before landing and striking a concrete culvert and overturning. Knigge was transported by Air Evac Lifeteam to St. John's Hospital in Springfield with moderate injuries. She was cited for driving while intoxicated, careless and reckless driving, failure to provide proof of financial responsibility, failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to wear a seatbelt.
