Arkansas State Police investigators are still working to determine the cause of a Thursday, Nov. 4, fire which took the life of a 15-month-old Viola boy.

Laura Martin made a late morning 9-1-1 call to report that her mobile home on Flora Cemetery Road, south of Viola, was on fire.

According to Sheriff Walter Dillinger, Martin was in the kitchen of her home when she smelled smoke and discovered the fire.

When police and fire units arrived, Martin was outside the home with her twin boys.

However, the fire had prevented Martin from reaching the back of the home where her 15-month-old son, Isaac, was located.

Firefighters recovered the boy's body and Martin was air flighted to St. John's Hospital, in Springfield, for treatment for smoke inhalation.

The fire destroyed the mobile home, which was located west of the Boy Scout camp on Flora Road.

Investigators returned to the fire scene on Friday, Nov. 5, to search for clues as to what caused the fire.

Funeral arrangements for Isaac Martin were pending at press time.
