Acy Beebe, 24, of Calico Rock, an Izard County Deputy, was treated and released from Baxter Regional Medical Center Friday after being hit by a car while at the scene of a deer and car accident in Melbourne.
The driver of the vehicle that hit Beebe, David Hallowell, 65, of Sage was charged by Arkansas State Trooper Brandon J. Cook with careless and prohibited driving, leaving the scene of an accident and no proof of insurance. Hallowell was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria and was not injured in the accident.
The deputy was in the middle turn lane of state Highway 69 at 6:25 a.m., about 2.2 miles south of its intersection with state Highway 9 and in the city limits of Melbourne.
Hallowell was southbound on Highway 69, drove into the turn lane where Beebe was cleaning debris from the previous accident and struck Beebe with his vehicle's driver side mirror. The impact threw Beebe into the air and he landed about seven feet away on his back in the turn lane.
Cook said Hallowell continued south on Highway 69, then came back to the accident scene 10 to 15 minutes later.
