Salem splits with Bearkatz

The Salem Greyhounds split a pair of non-conference games from Melbourne Dec. 13 at The Dawg Pound.

The Lady Hounds were down 30-28 at the half before outscoring Melbourne 31-13 in the second half, knocking off the Lady Katz 59-43.

Jamie Bell had a huge night with 20 points and eight boards.

Whitney Ward added 15 points, while Paige Hollis had six.

Ashley Brooks and Bethany Pate logged four points each, with Abby Blevins adding three.

Whitney Rose, Savannah Henley and Dalina Perkey logged two points apiece.

Callen Curtis ended the game with one point.

Stacee Hargett and Sage Parish paced Melbourne with 11 points each.

Olevia Wetzel scored 10 points and Michelle Arnold had seven.

In boys' action, the homestanding Greyhounds fell to Melbourne 63-57.

Salem outscored Melbourne 46-22 in the second half of play.

Melbourne led 9-3 after one, but Salem held the Bearkatz scoreless in the second period to move in front 12-9 at intermission.

Casey York led Salem with 17 points.

Chris Shaffer finished with 13.

Justus Sparks logged eight points, while Brandon Godfrey tossed in six points and pulled down 10 boards.

Colby Harber posted five points, Wes Ellison added four, Hunter Medling had three and David Tarpley tallied two points.
